 Field Closing

Field Closed to All Flying

Mr Brent Buck has requested that the field be closed on Sunday, September 12, 2010 until 1:30 PM. Please note that our monthly meeting is scheduled for 2:00 PM that day.  We will still hold the scheduled meeting however please do not show up at the field until 1:30 PM or later.

 President's Message

I’ve received a request that we exercise care in our use of the field around the middle of September. The same church group that was there last year is having another retreat. They will primarily be over in the area and building on the large lake and clubhouse side. However, they may have some activities in our area. There has been no request for us to close the field. I was told that closing the field will not be necessary. However, if it appears they are having any organized church service or baptism good common courtesy would indicate that we should shut down. I extended an invitation for them to come watch us fly.

I was also notified that between the fourth (first Monday) and the eighteen (third Monday) of October there will be a youth event (sixteen and seventeen year olds). Some of the youth activities will be overnight. Again I offered, but there was no request for us to shut down the field at any time. I was told that shutting the field for either of the two events was not necessary. Most activities will be on the large lake and clubhouse side. There will be a firing range, with a brume, set up on the other side of the hill. It should be safe where we are. There may at times be some activity on the field behind us. Of some concern, is that some of the teenagers may try to watch us fly from the top of the hill. If that happens we need to get out of the sky and invite them to join us at a safe location. We need to be EXTRA CAREFUL and should we feel that there are any possible safety issues at any time all flying should  cease immediately.

I extended a warm welcome for them to come watch us fly.

 Guest Flyers

GUEST FLYERS

Guest flyers are welcomed at the field provided that they are sponsored and accompanied by a club member in good standing. The guest and sponsor must complete and sign the Visitor Information sheet, located on the clipboard at the flying field. The Visitor Information Sheet must be completed by the sponsor and guest at each visit and left on the clipboard.

If the guest flyer does not have a current "OPEN" AMA card the sponsoring club member must contact one of the Introductory Pilots who will complete and send to AMA a form which will give the guest the necessary insurance coverage for 60 days.  The guest may then fly only in a student/instructor relationship with the Introductory Pilot. In this situation all visits must occur within the 60 day insurance coverage period and must be in a student/instructor relationship.

Guest with a AMA "PARK FLYER" membership are considered the same as non AMA members due to the AMA "PARK FLYER" member having only limited insurance.

If the guest flyer is a current "OPEN" AMA member the sponsoring club member will be responsible for determining the guest's flying skills and deciding if the guest will be allowed to fly on their own.

All guest flyers are limited to a total of three visits per calendar year (except as noted below). Organized events, such as a fly-in, do not count as a visit.

Under all circumstances the sponsoring club member will be responsible for informing the guest of all the club rules and will be responsible for the guest's behavior and adherence to all club rules set forth in the RC Flyers Handbook and other club documents.

EXCEPTION TO THREE VISIT RULE

  1. When a guest flyer is flying in a student/instructor relationship with a Introductory Pilot the Introductory Pilot will determine how many visits are necessary for that guest flyer. The Introductory Pilot may determine that less than or more than three visits are necessary in each case.

  2. Any current member in good standing of a AMA Chartered RC Club are welcome as “guest” when they are in the area.

  1. Military personal on TDA (temporary duty assignment) with a current “OPEN” AMA card are welcome to make the Columbus – Ft. Benning RC Flyers their temporary club with full use of the RC Flyers field while they are in the area.
